Where Volcanic Soil Meets Sugarcane Heritage

From Cane Field To Cask

Sol Tarasco is a D.O.-protected Charanda — Mexico’s only denomination of origin sugarcane spirit — produced by the Pacheco family at Casa Tarasco in the city of Uruapan, in the state of Michoacán. Despite its overlooked status, Mexico has a rich history of sugarcane distillation dating back to the early 16th century, when the Spanish first introduced cultivation of this tropical plant.

For over 113 years, the Pacheco family has been producing Charanda, also known as “Guarapo.” Now led by Miriam Pacheco, the family continues a tradition that stretches back to 1907, when Don Cleofas Murgia Pacheco transitioned from mezcal production to distilling sugarcane. In 2003, the family’s efforts secured the creation of the Charanda D.O., protecting all producers in the region.

The Sol Tarasco range is very similar to the French Agricole style of rhums in terms of production — meaning it is 100% local cane juice based, never molasses. The Pachecos only select sugarcane cultivated on their own estate at over 1,270 metres above sea level, where volcanic red soil, tropical climate and diurnal temperature shifts create exceptional terroir. The cane is freshly pressed by a water-powered mill, open-air fermented in wooden vats, and double distilled in 1,000-litre copper pot stills fired by biomass.

Each expression is aged in selected ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels, bottled with no sugar or additives added. Pure, traditional and unmistakably Mexican — Sol Tarasco is Charanda as it was always meant to be.

The Foundation

Charanda 4 Year Old

The entry point to the Sol Tarasco range and a masterclass in what Charanda can be. Made from 100% local sugarcane juice, slowly distilled in copper pot stills and aged in selected ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels for around four years.

Bottled at 40% ABV with no sugar or additives added, the 4 Year Old delivers the warm, rich character of estate-grown Michoacán sugarcane — smooth enough to sip neat yet bold enough to hold its own in cocktails.

Nose

Honey, vanilla and cinnamon. Very intense and inviting, with a warmth that draws you in immediately.

Palate

Smooth and rich. The sugarcane sweetness is natural and restrained, carried by gentle oak, soft spice and a clean, rounded finish.

Appearance

Dark Mahogany with Hints of Copper

Sol Tarasco 4 Year Old is the foundation of the range — a pure Agricole-style Charanda that introduces drinkers to Mexico’s hidden sugarcane tradition. No shortcuts, no additives, just estate-grown cane and time in oak.

Refined By Time

Charanda 8 Year Old

Produced from local Mexican sugarcane grown on the volcanic red soil at an elevation of more than 4,180 metres above sea level, the 8 Year Old is distilled in alembic and column stills before being aged in selected ex-bourbon and Spanish ex-sherry barrels for around eight years.

Bottled at 40% ABV, 100% Agricole with no sugar or additives added. The extended maturation brings depth, structure and a seductive dryness that elevates this expression far beyond typical rum expectations.

Nose

Vanilla, toasted oak and dried fruit. Deeper and more complex than the 4 Year, with the sherry cask influence beginning to assert itself.

Palate

Seductive, dry and explosive. Clear notes of toasted oak, vanilla and warm spices build into a long, elegant finish. Structured and refined, with real depth of character.

Appearance

Dark Wood

Sol Tarasco 8 Year Old is the heart of the range — where the volcanic terroir of Michoacán and the patience of extended ageing come together in a Charanda of real sophistication. A spirit that rewards slow sipping and quiet attention.

A Decade In Oak

Charanda 10 Year Old

The pinnacle of the Sol Tarasco core range. Made using traditional production methods and a slow distillation process, the 10 Year Old is aged in selected ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels for around a decade before being bottled at 42% ABV. 100% pure Agricole, with no sugar or additives added.

A Charanda of exceptional depth and maturity — rich, layered and evocative of aged cognac or fine rum, yet unmistakably rooted in the volcanic terroir of Michoacán and the Pacheco family’s century-old craft.

Nose

Vanilla, dried fruit and coffee. The deepest and most complex of the range, with a brooding richness that speaks to a decade of slow maturation in oak.

Palate

Clear notes of toasted oak, vanilla and warm spices. The sherry cask influence is fully integrated, delivering dried stone fruit, toffee and a long, resonant finish. Elegant and commanding.

Appearance

Mahogany

Sol Tarasco 10 Year Old is a Charanda for those who appreciate the finest aged spirits. A decade of patient maturation, 100% estate-grown sugarcane, and the Pacheco family’s unbroken tradition — bottled without compromise.
