Where Ancestral Recipes Meet Mexican Terroir

From Family Recipe To Bottle

El Hispano is a range of Mexican liqueurs born from ancestral recipes of the Pacheco family — recipes that had been passed down through generations but never bottled, until now. Crafted at Casa Tarasco in the city of Uruapan, in the tropical state of Michoacán, each expression captures the bold, vibrant flavours of Mexico’s culinary heritage in liquid form.

During a trip to Mexico, the Pacheco family gave a private tasting of their Jalapeño liqueur to Bogdan Tanasoiu, CEO of BBC Spirits. It had never been commercially produced. For Bogdan, there was no doubt: this original liqueur had to be bottled. The El Hispano range was born — a collaboration that brought a hidden family craft to the world stage.

The Pacheco family has been producing Charanda — Mexico’s protected denomination of origin sugarcane spirit — in Uruapan since 1907. Miriam Pacheco now runs the family company, continuing a tradition that stretches back over a century. In 2003, the family secured the creation of the Charanda D.O., protecting all producers in the region. Their sugarcane is cultivated at 1,270 metres above sea level in a tropical microclimate surrounded by mango trees, berries and wild banana varieties.

El Hispano starts as a sugarcane spirit, distilled from molasses in a column still to around 65% ABV. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients are then added to the vat and macerated for 45 to 60 days. After maceration, the liquid is filtered, blended down to 30% ABV with purified water, and finished with a touch of brown cane sugar for balance and roundness. The result is a range of liqueurs unlike anything else in the market — authentic, artisanal and unmistakably Mexican.

The Original Expression

Jalapeño Liqueur

The one that started it all. This Jalapeño chilli liqueur is made from the maceration of fresh green Jalapeños in 100% molasses white rum at 55% ABV for one month. After maceration, brown sugarcane is added, giving the liqueur its signature roundness.

The expression that convinced BBC Spirits to bottle the Pacheco family’s ancestral recipes for the first time, El Hispano Jalapeño is a bold and versatile liqueur — perfectly at home in a Spiced Margarita, a fiery Paloma or served as a chilled shot.

Nose

Earthy and herbaceous, with the bright, fresh aroma of green Jalapeño peppers and soft vegetal undertones.

Palate

Perfectly balanced between round, warm and spicy notes. The heat of the Jalapeño is tempered by brown sugar sweetness, delivering a clean, lingering spice that doesn't overpower.

Appearance

Clear with a Tint of Green

El Hispano Jalapeño is a bartender’s secret weapon — a liqueur that brings authentic Mexican heat and character to any cocktail menu. Born from a family recipe that waited generations to be bottled, it is as original as it is versatile.

Smoky Heat, Ancestral Soul

Chipotle Liqueur

This Chipotle chilli liqueur is made from the maceration of dried chillies called Chipotles in 100% molasses white rum at 55% ABV. The peppers undergo a month-long infusion, after which brown cane sugar is added, giving the liqueur a warm, rounded sweetness that balances the smoky depth.

Where the Jalapeño is bright and fresh, the Chipotle is its darker, smokier counterpart — a liqueur built for depth, complexity and the kind of warmth that lingers. Perfect in an Old Fashioned twist, a Smoky Margarita or as a bold finishing note in cocktails.

Nose

Dried chilli peppers, earthy and herbaceous, with a distinctive smoky warmth that sets it apart from the fresh heat of the Jalapeño.

Palate

Perfectly balanced between round, warm and spicy notes. The smoky sweetness of the Chipotle builds slowly, with brown sugar rounding the finish into something rich, savoury and moreish.

Appearance

Clear with a Tint of Red

El Hispano Chipotle is the deeper, smokier expression in the range — a liqueur that brings campfire warmth and ancestral craft to the modern cocktail bar. Bold, balanced and unmistakably authentic.

Citrus Meets Sugarcane

Naranja Liqueur

El Hispano Naranja is carefully crafted using a maceration of locally grown fresh oranges and mandarins from the state of Michoacán. The citrus fruits are macerated for one month in white rum at 55% ABV, after which a subtle addition of brown cane sugar imparts a delicate roundness

The result is a liqueur that skilfully balances the zesty, tangy brightness of Mexican citrus with the smooth warmth of sugarcane rum — lighter and more approachable than its chilli siblings, yet equally authentic and versatile behind the bar.

Nose

Slightly sweet with a clear hint of fresh citrus. Orange and mandarin peel lift gently, clean and inviting.

Palate

Light orange flavours with a discreet underlying bitterness. The citrus is bright but not sharp, balanced by the smooth sugarcane base and a subtle brown sugar sweetness on the finish.

Appearance

Clear with a Tint of Orange

El Hispano Naranja brings the sunshine of Michoacán’s citrus groves into the glass. Lighter and more versatile than the chilli expressions, it is a natural fit for spritzes, twists on the classic Sour, or sipped gently over ice.
