The Jumping Goat story begins in ancient Ethiopia, with a goat herder named Kaldi. Legend has it that Kaldi’s goats loved munching berries — the kind that inexplicably made them bounce about. Kaldi accidentally roasted the berries, and coffee was discovered.
Fast forward a couple of thousand years, where a professional drinker and visionary from Kiwi-land — Callum O’Brien — had a dream: to concoct a coffee-rich elixir unlike anything on the market. He set to work, experimenting with vodka and espresso from a secondhand coffee machine. Much imbibing and innovating later, Jumping Goat was born.
Established in 2013 in Tauranga, New Zealand, every bottle starts with around 100g of the highest quality, batch-roasted, Fairtrade organic coffee beans sourced from Papua New Guinea. These are cold brewed — never heat extracted — then blended with spices, pure New Zealand spring water and exquisitely clean redistilled NZ whey vodka. The result is a coffee liqueur that lives true to its motto: “Warms the Heart, Opens the Eyes.”
